Been some time.

Well I've not written on here for soooo long, it's just been one of those "i'll do it tomorrow" things.

Anyway since my last blog post, I've been busy starting my essay for my impressionism/post impressionism lectures...i'm not really getting into it yet. I've been reading Emile Zola's book 'Nana' which is good reference for my essay, and I'm finding the novel an enjoyable read, It's about prostitution in the 19th Century. I like writing essay's when I'm writing about something which I've got a genuine interest in, and women in prostitution is something which I'm quite intrigued with so it's good to learn about the history whilst I'm writing this essay.

Table Exhibiton.

We had a little group crit again today at uni, they always help I think, because each time we do this it gives me feedback from a new group of people who haven't necessarily seen my work yet. I just spoke about the collaborative project which me and Felix are putting together in the disused building, creating a life sized doll house scenario, and turning it into an event which will exhibit not only the project itself, but also our own separate ongoing projects. Something I'm very excited about, and plan to get it completed by the end of February.

Impressionism/ Post Impressionism lecture 1.

So I had my first lecture last week, I chose to do these lectures because of the lecturer Michael Howard, he's really enthusiastic and shows a lot of passion for the subject, so he's really good at keeping me interested...which I think is pretty important!!

This first lecture was just an introduction for the next term, it sounds really good, and something which I'm generally interested in. Michael is very articulate and he so much knowledge for this particular subject, which I found a little overwhelming to start with when comparing to the short space of time we have to learn everything.

We were given a poem to read by Charles Baudelaire for this week, and although I've read it, I had work last night when we had our second lecture, so I'm going to have to bring it for next weeks instead.

Also I need to get a hold of a few novels, because Michael is quite adamant that to do well on this course, we need to read novels to gain that extra knowledge. I'm looking for Emile Zola novel called 'Nana', it's apparently based on a woman leading her life as a prostitute, the book was written in 1880...I think it sounds really interesting and I'm looking forward to reading it! There aren't any copies in the library so I'm going to order it off Amazon next week when I get paid!

This is my carving into a tree, for the site specific project last week.

This is an image I drew of a church, it symbolises the history of the park where the tree sits. The All Saints park at uni used to be a graveyard, along with a church, so that's why I chose to carve a small church into the tree...I wanted it to be simple, because I don't think it needs too much detail to make the point.

I didn't research into tree carving, I just thought I'd go along and experiment. Apparently you're not allowed to touch any tree's that don't belong on your own land, so I think it's against the law. I don't like vandalism, and I don't class this as vandalism, it's art, and the tree will heal eventually so no harm done.

My book.

I'm creating some characters which I may or may not use in a book... I enjoy drawing and imaganing characters ans scenes, but I get a bit impatient when actually writing the story, so I'll see how that goes!...

site project.

We've been given a new project based on 'site specific. We were only given a week for this, which for me is probably the best thing, seen as i work best under pressure, it just gives me the motivation to produce work. I've had a few ideas for the project, seen as we're confined to the grounds of the university, I pretty much straight away wanted to use the park that sits in the middle of the library and arts buildings, so i needed some sort of connection to make between my art and the park where it will be situated. With research I found that in fact there was once a church located on the grass area, along with a cemetery...so my ideas now became based around this.

Tomorrow I'm going to engrave into a tree in the park, a symbol or writing of some sort, I have a few ideas but i'll not say until I've actually done it, I hope it goes to plan!
